Vestibular Rehab Provider
Vestibular rehab is a specialized type of therapy focused on alleviating such common vestibular/inner ear symptoms as vertigo, dizziness, nausea, or loss of balance. Vestibular rehab works through the process of ‘adaptation & compensation’ – that means that the vestibular system is actually being ‘reprogrammed’ through both passive and active therapies to form connections with the brain on adjusting imbalances and regaining stability.
What to Expect at the First Visit
During your initial visit, thorough health history and physical examination/testing will be conducted in order to determine the nature of your vestibular condition, rule out any red flags which would require emergent care, and determine the best treatment plan for you.
The goal of your individualized treatment plans will be to enhance gaze and postural stability, improve/eliminate any dizziness, and improve the overall function and safety of your activities of daily living (ADL).
Vestibular Rehab Treatment Options
Following the assessment, a wide variety of treatment options are available depending on your condition. These can include eye exercises, training to reduce sensitivity, balance challenges, and strategies for dealing with cognitive and psychological impacts.
In cases of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) – the most common cause of vertigo, the canalith repositioning maneuvers are often used which provides incredible immediate results.
Balance training done as part of vestibular rehab is also effective for clients who don’t necessarily have a vestibular problem, but have orthopedic, sensory, or other brain-related disorders affecting their equilibrium.
