What To Expect At Your First Visit
During your initial visit to the clinic, our Concussion specialist will conduct a thorough health history and physical examination in order to determine if you have sustained a concussion, rule out any red flags which would require emergent care, and determine the best treatment plan for you.
The goal of our individualized treatment plans is to eliminate your concussion symptoms, ensure a complete recovery from injury, and promote a safe and quick return to work and/or physical activity. Treatments may include any combination of manual therapy, visual & vestibular rehabilitation, exercise therapy and diet plan.
What Is A Concussion?
A concussion is a disruption in neurological functioning following a significant impact on the head or body. This blow can cause a biochemical imbalance within brain cells, as well as decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain. Individuals who sustain a concussion frequently complain of a headache, feeling “out of it”, feeling off-balance and dizzy. They may also have neck pain, mood and sleep changes, and difficulty thinking, remembering and concentrating. Light, noise, and “busy” situations may also trigger symptoms.
Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS):
Are your concussion symptoms lingering and impacting your daily life months or even years after an injury? Post-Concussion Syndrome is defined as concussion symptoms lasting longer than 3 months. Historically, people were told to do one thing following a concussion: Rest. This philosophy is outdated and may in fact lead to prolonged recovery times. The newest research and evidence suggest that taking an active approach to care leads to the best outcomes for patients.
